Notes from the President of the BBBA 2026

 

​A huge, warm welcome back to the fantastic Ashton Rugby Club for the 2026 Whit Friday Brass Band Contest!

​

It feels like only yesterday we were last gathered together, but the wait is finally over. I am absolutely thrilled for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of spectacular music and top-tier entertainment from our brilliant bands!

​

I am incredibly proud of how the Broadoak contest continues to grow and evolve. We’ve worked hard to honour the rich history of this event, proudly carrying forward the name of the original venue whilst constantly refreshing the experience, upgrading our facilities, and expanding the wider support that makes this contest thrive.

​

None of this magic happens by accident. A massive thank you goes out to our dedicated committee and everyone involved with Ashton Rugby Club. The tireless, behind-the-scenes work they put in all year round is truly what makes tonight a success.

​

Of course, all the preparation in the world means nothing without the energy of the crowd.

 

So, the biggest thank you belongs to you—our phenomenal, ever-reliable audience. Whether you are a lifelong Broadoak stalwart or joining us for the very first time, your dedicated support year in and year out is the heartbeat of this event. I hope you have a spectacular evening tonight and continue to visit us for many years to come.

On a more personal note, this will be my final year serving as President of the BBBA. Having been on the committee since 2021, it has been an absolute privilege and a genuine honour to help organize an event that has always been one of my favourite days in the community calendar. I will be stepping down knowing the contest is in brilliant hands, and I wish the committee nothing but continued success in the future.
